Every March and April, the Red Stag roar carries across the Southern Alps - one of the sounds that brings hunters back to New Zealand year after year. Metanoia Ventures hunts with exclusive access to private and free-range blocks throughout the Southern Alps, not one fixed property, and TJ has been guiding hunters here for 15+ years.

Where We Hunt
Our home base is Wanaka, on New Zealand's South Island - surrounded by mountains, a short drive from the lakefront, with local wineries, trails, and Wanaka's best experiences right on our doorstep.
From here, TJ and the team hunt across private and free-range blocks throughout the Southern Alps, so instead of being tied to one property, your hunt goes wherever your targeted species are.
We also proudly hold a DOC hunting concession allowing us to guide true free-range wilderness hunts.
What We Offer
We guide Red Stag, Bull Tahr, Wapiti Elk, Chamois, and Fallow Buck hunts across the South Island, plus waterfowl for hunters who want to add something different to the trip.
Want a more self-guided, backcountry experience? Our Drop Camps are built for exactly that.
We also guide in the North Island - Sika, Sambar, and Rusa deer - so wherever you want to hunt in New Zealand, chances are we can get you there.
Every hunt is available as an individual species, a combo package across two or more species, or a group package for the whole crew.

Our guests consistently connect with mature animals - not because we guarantee it, but because our guides put in the work to find them.

Sustainability In The Hunt
We firmly believe in getting the most from every hunt - that's why we sustainably pack out meat from every hunt, butchering it in-house with our certified butcher, and serving what we can throughout your stay.
To reduce wastage, remaining meat is carried onwards, feeding the next hunter upon arrival. We can also package your meat for international travel.
Meet TJ
Owner, Operator, & Lead Guide
Metanoia Ventures is owner-operated by TJ, who has guided hunters across New Zealand for 15+ years and is a member of both the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides Association (NZPHGA) and the Tourism Industry Association of New Zealand (TIA).
Most of the hunters who join TJ in the field are groups - fathers and sons, brothers, old friends, multi-generational families hunting together - with partners and spouses welcomed and looked after by the Metanoia Host, and his better half, Megan.
Metanoia also hosts the annual Veterans Trip, a charity hunt for military veterans - a project close to TJ's heart.
