Free Range Self-Guided Drop Camps

At Metanoia Ventures, we are proud to offer Drop Camps for hunters seeking the thrill of an independent, unguided experience in some of New Zealand’s most pristine wilderness. This is your chance to challenge yourself while hunting free-range Tahr and Chamois, Red Stag, and Fallow Deer in private hunting areas. As these hunts aren't from our main lodge, Drop Hunts allow for more available dates during peak periods during the Red stag roar and Tahr rut each year.

Drop camps are available from February to August.

Drop Hunts include tailored chef-prepared meals to meet dietary needs, saving you the hassle of a post-arrival food shop. We also provide recommended gear lists and can help plan other activities to make the most of your New Zealand adventure beyond hunting.

Multi-Day Drop Hunts

We require a minimum of two hunters per booking, leaving it entirely up to your group how many participants join. With decades of local knowledge and experience, we ensure you are well-prepared with both the gear and important information about the hunting area and tips on assessing the game you're pursuing.

Our Drop Camps combine independence with the convenience of a fully supported experience, delivering the perfect balance for the self-reliant hunter.

Our drop camp packages are designed to give you a comfortable, self-guided wilderness hunting experience with everything you need to succeed. Each camp is equipped with high-quality wall tents fitted with wood-burning stoves, split dry firewood, sleeping cots, and four-season sleeping bags to keep you warm and well-rested. You'll have private chef-prepared meals ready to heat on your own schedule, and we’ll take care of organizing return helicopter flights, assisting with rental vehicle hire, airport pickups, and support with your visitor firearms permit.

Our goal is to ensure your focus stays entirely on the hunt. For safety, please note that each group of two hunters is required to carry a GPS and a satellite phone or InReach device while in the field, in accordance with our safety regulations.
